I'd better eat up! One of my OT's, Janice, will be here soon and I need my strength.
Today, Dylan had a morning therapy appointment with Janice. During his session, we worked on his ability to get up from different positions, most of which was from his side. As of right now, Dylan is only able to get into a sitting position by pushing up from the floor while on his tummy and then doing the splits to move his legs around. The kid is very flexible and we are very excited he can get up into a sitting position, but from the splits? So we are working on other avenues for him to get up.
Dylan is also working on his mobility with his therapists (both Janice and Eileen). We work on his trunk and arm strength using different toys and such. Dylan's favorite exercise tool (play toy) is the exercise ball. He loves to push it around, sit on it while we move it around so he can balance on it, and the absolute favorite...bouncing on it! In fact, it can sometimes be a little hard to get him to do anything else while he is balancing on the ball. Another favorite is the swing which Dylan gets to play on when we visit Eileen at the hospital. This is an actually swing that we hang Dylan on in various positions. His favorite swing position is like he is pretending to be superman! The ultimate goal with these toys/exercise techniques is to get him stronger so he can push himself around easier. Or as we put it...commando crawl. Eventually, this commando crawl will develop into a typical crawl that you see most kiddos do.
As for the rest of the day, we are running a couple of errands but mostly, Dylan and Mommy are relaxing. We might run to see our friend, Jen, but that is about it or maybe play out in the nice sunshine. Daddy is working the day shift today so we plan on having a nice dinner waiting for him when he gets home. We don't get to eat dinner together very often as a family so we take advantage of it when we can. Broccoli Beef, anyone? Then Dylan and Daddy can have some play time while Mommy teaches the last of her oboe lessons for the year. A nice quiet day.
