Dylan had a wonderful day yesterday. He pointed for the first time. It actually happened in a therapy session with Harriet (speech therapist) as they were reading a book together. Dylan actually pointed to a puppy not once, but FOUR times and on FOUR different pages! We were so excited!
But our day also had some bad news. Dylan (and Mommy) has a friend, Max, who has CHARGE syndrome. We actually met eachother while we were both down at Children's Hospital. Dylan was in for his heart surgery and Max was in for pretty much everything you can think of, including a heart surgery. Max was doing really, really well and has been home for quite a while which is a great accomplishment considering his myriad of medical issues. In fact, we just celebrated Max's first birthday a week ago. We are also so impressed with Max's Mommy. Amy is SO dedicated, organized, and tenacious which are great traits when dealing with so many physicians, therapists, hospitals, medical supply companies...etc. We genuinely admire her strength. So as you can imagine, it saddened us to learn Max had to be re-admitted to the hospital due to some breathing and Nissen issues.
We know that in the world of special needs kiddos, hospital visits are commonplace and we also know Dylan is certainly in for his fair share. But it really does take a toll and you want these kiddos as hospital-free (and in Max's case, surgery-free) as possible. So Max, we are praying for you to get better soon. After all, we STILL haven't been able to attend class together....so get better buddy. Amy, feel free to call if you need anything.
