We went to Leavenworth this weekend to go snowmobiling. Leavenworth is this beautiful Bavarian village in the Cascade Mountains which also happens to be where Mommy spent most of her childhood growing up. Along with us for this interesting trip included Grandma & Grandpa, Uncle Don and Auntie Jen, and Us. We left Friday afternoon and got to our rented cabin around 4 pm. We should have known it would be an exciting trip when we pulled up since the cabin was on a steep, steep hill and we couldn't get our 4x4 truck with the snowmobile trailer up the drive...but we'll save that story for later.
We were the first ones there so we got to pick our rooms first. Mommy and Daddy took the biggest one upstairs because it would fit the beds for me and Jonah. Little did they know that their bed would be hard as a rock and sag. Soon after we got there, Grandpa and Grandma arrived. They gave Jonah and I lots and lots of love. Even though I wasn't feeling hot, I was pretty happy to see them. Uncle Don and Auntie Jen came a little later. Friday night, we just hung around and had dinner.
Saturday morning was when the excitement started. Mommy and Grandpa went for a great snowmobile ride but while they were out, one of the sleds indicated it was overheating. So Grandpa checked it out and it seemed like everything was fine. So then Daddy and Uncle Don went out. They went for a little while before the sled did overheat and they spent a majority of their trip packing it with snow so they could get it back. When they got to the cabin, Uncle Don, Daddy, and Grandpa looked it over and thought they fixed it. While they were outside, us kiddos were inside with the "gals". And I did something very exciting...I learned how to climb stairs! Well, I learned how to go up them. Going down them was another challenge yet mastered gracefully.
After the sled was fixed, everyone hung around Saturday afternoon and put together a puzzle, had sandwiches, and talked. Then Mommy took Daddy out for another snowmobile ride. She wanted to show him one of her favorite trails that would be very cool to see, especially during sunset. They almost got to the very top of the trail (way, way up there) when the troublesome snowmobile died. Kaput. So Mommy ended up towing that sled (with Daddy holding on tight to her...very romantic...ewww) to a place where Grandpa could come pick it up with the truck.
We then went out for burgers and Mommy should have known then, it would be a terrible night for me. I whined, threw my food, cried, and was just not happy. I am sick (yet, again) and was just really not feeling well. I also didn't have my nap. It's also very, very hard for me when I'm out of my routine. So I a was not doing so hot...and I let everyone know it. Right there at the restaurant.
Mommy thought I was going to be okay after we got back in the car to go back to the cabin because I fell asleep. She was able to put me to bed without much trouble but when she went to bed herself, I woke up shortly afterwards. This led to what Mommy is describing as the worst night of her life.....ever. We were up from 11:30pm to 6:30am. Mommy tried, and tried, and tried, and tried her hardest to keep me quiet so everyone could get some rest. She did pretty well until about 6am when she had to enlist Daddy's help because Jonah was fussy a bit too. Daddy's help worked (he fell down the stairs getting me a bottle - he's okay) and we all FINALLY went to sleep at 6:30am! But then I woke back up at 7am. That's when Mommy grabbed us kiddos, went downstairs without saying a word, and handed us to Grandma. She turned right back around and slept for a few hours while Grandma and Auntie Jen entertained us kids. Thank you, Grandma and Auntie Jen. Mommy is very thankful for your help.
So we were all pretty tired on Sunday after we all finally got up. We started to pack and the original plan was to head to Leavenworth for some lunch and to look around. Mommy was looking forward to going there with Auntie Jen but it soon became apparent that us kiddos weren't up for the trip. Auntie Jen and Uncle Don decided to leave a little early so they could miss the weekend traffic going home. Grandma, Grandpa and Us finished packing and had decided to head home too. But that is when the real excitement started. And you thought staying up all night and a sled breaking down was the icing on our cake! Oh no. It get's better.
As I had mentioned earlier, the cabin was on a very steep, steep hill. And it was a sheet of ice. A very slick, very steep, very slippery hill of ice. We had gotten everything packed, loaded the cars up, locked up the cabin, and started the cars. Us kiddos were loaded up into the car with bottles in hand. But as soon as Daddy started to back the truck up with the snowmobile trailer, we knew we were in for a big, very scary adventure. We slid completely out of control because the hill was so icy. And then the snowmobile trailer took on a life of its own and jack-knived. We ended up sliding into an embankment before finally coming to a stop. Still on the hill. The very, very icy hill.
Two hours and many attempts later, we finally got situated so that we could unhook the truck from the trailer. Grandpa then used their chained Explorer to get the trailer off the hill but not without some more scary moments and a much explored vocabulary by everyone. I heard some new words. This is one time that Mommy is happy I'm signing and not talking yet. But what makes this adventure even better is that us kiddos were in the truck the entire time. The original ice skating trip in the truck, the many attempts and efforts to get the truck free, and while patiently waiting for Daddy and Grandpa to hook the trailer to the Explorer. We still have a 4 hour drive to get home.
But that is when Mommy is so grateful that us kiddos hadn't slept the night before. Because we slept in the truck. We did GREAT the entire drive home. We did have to stop twice. Once was because Jonah had a very stinky and very messy diaper. The second time was to stop for dinner. We started to whine about 45 minutes before we got home but considering that we had been in the car for 7 hours...we were very good boys!
So that was our weekend. Our very, very interesting weekend that we'll be talking about for a while. I'm not interested in getting into my carseat anytime soon.
