Ear Update

Yesterday we headed down to Children's Hospital in Seattle to see about my ears. The audiologist/laroncologist (SP?!?) did agree that there was a large amount of fluid behind my ears and that the best thing to do would be to try ear tubes. We are scheduled for surgery for August 19th. Since the doctor was concerned about my heart, we also have another appointment scheduled with the anesthetia department to make sure that they can proceed with this surgery.

The ear tubes are no big deal. In fact, most of the time, kids are exposed to a gas-mask and as they sleep the tubes are inserted. The whole procedure takes an hour and the child gets to go home later that afternoon. But with my heart, I need more monitoring than that of the gas-mask technique so my procedure will be a little bit more complicated. The anestitiologist will have to place an IV and might require a slightly longer stay to see how I'm reacting to the drugs that make me sleepy.

As weird as this may sound, Mommy is excited that I'm getting the ear tubes. She is REALLY hoping that this will help my hearing and speech. It is her dream that I'll wake up from this procedure and a week later just start jabbering away. Wouldn't that be cool?....but like I said, that is Mommy's dream. But regardless, this minor surgery will alleviate the pressure from behind my ears which undoubtedly will bring me some sort of relief. We'll keep you updated as things proceed.

I hope everything turns out great:) My youngest Kennedy has mild hearing loss and got tubes in at about 15 months old she had never said a word and about a month after her surgery she started saying words, we were amazed at how much hearing loss even mild effects there speech so much, I hope the same happens for Dylan.
