Eggs Anyone?

Many of you know my struggles to eat certain foods. I have what is called an 'oral aversion' which is a common problem with many special needs children. In a nutshell, it means that I don't like textures in my mouth.

My oral aversion issues are on the more extreme side of things. It relates to the fact that I was intubated several times during our stays at Children's Hospital. I was intubated when I was born, I was intubated a few times before my heart surgery, and I was intubated MANY times after my heart surgery. What is intubation? Its where they ram a big hose (hooked up to a machine) down your throat into your lungs to breathe for you. Nope. Not pretty. So we have been in therapy ever since to help me learn how to talk and eat. If I had my way, I'd eat yogurt all day and at every meal. It's the best.

But Mommy force feeds me other foods too and eventually I'll get used to them. Pretty soon, I'll eat them voluntarily. Such as grapes. I love grapes now but at first....yuck! We've come along way (Mommy is SO persistent) but one item we've never been able to overcome is eggs. Mommy has literally been trying to feed me an egg for over a year. Jonah, no problem. Me? BIG problem. Until last night.

Our favorite dinner is breakfast. Yep. We love having pancakes for dinner and yesterday Mommy tried the eggs again. She has tried every combination possible to get me to eat them. Plain, fried, covered in ketchup, covered in pepper, scrambled plain, omlets...the list goes on. But who knew that scrambled with lots (*LOTS*) of cheese would be the answer. Yep. I ate it.

So our battle of the eggs which has lasted for over a year is almost over. And with that, Mommy gives a BIG sigh of relief. Phew.
